CREATING AN APPLICATION

REASONS FOR DISQUALIFICATION

TEAM

  • Plagiarism - To be safe, please do not copy any textual part of a previous proposal (selected or not), find a new way to say it.
  • An Undocumented/Unapproved change to the investigation after the TEDP has been submitted.
  • Failure to pass Test Readiness Review (TRR) while in Houston .
  • Unwillingness or inability to comply with opportunity requirements (timely submission of pre-flight physicals, respond to requests for required information etc).
  • Proposal uses animal (including human) test subjects.
  • Unacceptable hazardous materials used - rated UNSAFE/NO-GO by Reduced Gravity Office.
  • Flagrant violation of Flight Safety Requirements.

INDIVIDUAL TEAM MEMBER

  • Medically "disqualified" for flight. A modified FAA - Air Force Class III Flight Physical is required for flyers. This includes being within a specific weight guideline (see " Medical Examination Packet " - Height and Weight Table/Page 3). A medically disqualified flight-crew member may still serve as a ground crew member.
  • "Disqualified" via physiological training. A disqualified flight-crew member may still serve as a ground crew member.
  • Team Principal Investigator may be asked to "step down" if communications to the team are not being passed along in a timely manner.
  • Flagrant violation of Flight Safety Requirements.
  • Not a US citizen.
  • Not a full time current NES classroom teacher at a current OR ALUMNI NES school.
  • Not attending the entire opportunity schedule at JSC Facilities and Ellington Field (including orientation).

WHAT CAN KEEP MY TEAM FROM FLYING?

  • Several weeks before your flight, your team's NASA mentor will submit a TEDP (Test Equipment Data Package) to the Reduced Gravity Office Lead Test Director at Ellington Field. Any undocumented or unapproved changes to the investigation after the TEDP has been submitted may result in the disqualification of a team.
  • Failure to pass Test Readiness Review (TRR) while in Houston. Each team's investigation is thoroughly inspected by a team of safety inspectors during the TRR in Houston. Each team member must be present for the TRR and give an overview of the investigation and the equipment.  If your experiment hardware is not ready, your team will not fly.
  • Unwillingness or inability to comply with opportunity requirements (timely submission of pre-flight physicals, respond to requests for required information etc). Meeting the established deadlines by each team is crucial to the success of this opportunity.
  • Inability to adhere to operation schedule while at NASA.
  • Unacceptable hazardous materials used - rated UNSAFE/NO-GO by the Reduced Gravity Office.
  • Flagrant violation of Flight Safety Requirements.
