BACKGROUND INFORMATION FOR CREATING AN APPLICATION

  1. Applications that include the use of animals (invertabrates or vertabrates, including humans) ARE NOT ACCEPTED FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY

    • Definition of Research Involving Animal Testing: Research is classified as including Animal Subjects when (as part of your investigation) you record or retain any of the following from an animal subject:
      • Physiological or Psychological data
      • Animal Factors data
      • Feedback
    • As an example, human subject data includes:
      • blood pressure
      • heart rate
      • serum creatinine level
      • eye movement
      • error rate in a pointing exercise
      • ease of movement in a specific glove
      • strength of muscle contractions during treadmill exercise
      • answers to a feelings and attitudes questionnaire
  2. You will be asked on your submission if your investigation is a free float.  Your investigation is a free float if it does not stay bolted/strapped to the floor during flight. Examples:
    • An investigation tethered to the floor that will "float up" during reduced gravity is considered a free float.
    • An investigation that will be held and released during reduced gravity is a free float.
    • If you are going to float something that will remain contained inside an apparatus that has been secured to the aircraft, it is NOT a free float.

Proceed to Proposal Form.
